Aruba Airport (AUA)

Aruba Airport (AUA), the Reina Beatrix International Airport, has the taxis waiting on arrival, the Arubus bus stops just outside the airport property and a free wifi in the terminal. Every traveller, babies included, needs the Aruba ED-Card before the flight, and the airport recommends arriving three hours before the departure.

The terminals at Aruba Airport

The airport's own guide of the departures says the check-in can be done online or through the airline app up to 24 hours before the flight, and that some airlines have self-service kiosks and a self bag drop for the flights to the United States. After the check-in comes the boarding pass and passport control, and then the security screening.

For the flights to the United States the airport applies a passenger flow control: the travellers may enter the US check-in terminal no earlier than three hours before the scheduled departure, the entry times follow a colour-coded system, and if the flight is delayed they still have to arrive by the original time.

Getting to and from Aruba Airport

The taxis are waiting when you come out of the terminal, and the fares are set and regulated by the Government of Aruba, with taxi.aw as the official source for them. The bus stops of Arubus, the bus company of the island, are just outside the property of the airport.

Inside the terminal the wifi is free, so the wait for the bus or the taxi does not need a data plan, and the airport has its own car rental desks for the days that the family wants a car.

What happens when you arrive at AUA

Keep your passport and any form you filled in on the plane with you the whole way, from the aircraft door to the exit.

On an international arrival you clear immigration, collect your bags and pass through customs, and for the flights to the United States the same process is done at Aruba, so there is no second control on arrival in the United States.

Aruba Airport with children

To enter Aruba every traveller has to complete the ED-Card, and the airport's own page says that this includes the infants and the children; the form can be filled in during the seven days before the trip. The yellow fever rules have a date for the families: the vaccine has to be applied at least ten days before the trip, and the yellow book is shown at immigration.

There are also three pet relief areas for the passengers who leave with a pet, near the restrooms of Gate B, near the restrooms of Gate 2 and along the corridor right before the Gates 7 and 8. And the airlines give the wheelchair assistance, which is asked for at the booking or at the check-in.

Plan your stop at Aruba Airport

Terminals, airlines and arrival procedures change, so check with the airline and the airport's own site before you travel. And check with the embassy or consulate about the documents your family needs for the entry rules of every country on your route.
