The terminals at Asuncion Airport

The airport's own authority says the Silvio Pettirossi International Airport is the main terminal of the country, and that on 21 November 2025 it opened a new departure area: an extension of 2,245 m2 built on the old terrace, part of the Continuous Improvement Programme of the Direccion Nacional de Aeronautica Civil.

The security control area of the new sector went from two positions to four, and from 230 m2 to 880 m2, with room for 120 passengers in line instead of 30, and the immigration area went from four positions to five and from 135 m2 to 500 m2, with room for 100 passengers in line instead of 25.

Getting to and from Asuncion Airport

The old access to the departure area is closed for good, and the new work is now the only way in, so a family that leaves the terminal for a moment has to go back through the new hall.

The works also added two new telescopic passenger boarding bridges, at the gates 1 and 4, and the airport's authority is renewing the security checkpoint with LED lighting, new ceilings, air conditioning of the shared areas and modernised bathrooms.

What happens when you arrive at ASU

Keep your passport and any form you filled in on the plane with you the whole way, from the aircraft door to the exit.

On an international arrival you clear immigration, collect your bags and pass through customs. The authority says the controls will be reinforced with five e-gates, which check the identity of the passengers without the manual review of the documents.

The new departure area was built to take the queues out of the airport: the security control now has room for 120 passengers in line and the immigration for 100, instead of 30 and 25, so a family with a small child has more room while it waits.

Keep the children's documents in your carry-on bag, and arrive with time for the line of the new security area, which is the only access to the departure hall now.
