The terminals at Belize City Airport
The airport's own page says the terminal building measures 110,000 square feet and holds the international and the domestic terminals, with 10 departure gates in all, and that the check-in counters of every airline are in Terminals 1 and 2.
The runway is 9,900 feet long, the airport asks the passengers to arrive 3 to 4 hours before the scheduled departure, and next to the terminal there is a stand-alone air cargo terminal of 12,000 square feet with eight cargo operators.
Getting to and from Belize City Airport
The airport is 10 miles from downtown Belize City, and its FAQ says the taxicabs wait outside the Airport Terminal Building during the normal operating hours, which are from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.; outside those hours the services are available on request.
The 14 car rental agencies sit across from the terminal, at the Rental Services Center, and the two car parks, A and B, have 390 parking spaces between them. The airport also has a separate air cargo terminal and its own free wireless internet for the passengers.
What happens when you arrive at BZE
Keep your passport and any form you filled in on the plane with you the whole way, from the aircraft door to the exit.
The flight information is on the monitors of each terminal, and the airport's own FAQ says that the items left in the terminal go to the Security Office of Terminal 1 and are kept for 60 days, while an item lost on the plane or in the baggage claim is a matter for the airline.
Belize City Airport with children
The airport's FAQ explains the rule of the liquids in the hand baggage: they have to be in containers of 3 ounces or less, in a clear bag, and the airport makes an exception for the baby formula and for the prescription drugs and the medications, which matters for a family that travels with a small child.
With the check-in three hours before the departure, a family with a baby has time for the line and for the security check, and the free wireless internet in the terminal keeps the wait bearable. Leave the children's documents in your carry-on bag, not in the checked luggage.
Plan your stop at Belize City Airport
Terminals, airlines and arrival procedures change, so check with the airline and the airport's own site before you travel. And check with the embassy or consulate about the documents your family needs for the entry rules of every country on your route.
