The terminals at Los Angeles Airport

Los Angeles International Airport has Terminals 1 to 8 and the Tom Bradley International Terminal, and the airport publishes a map and information for each one.

Two things are worth knowing before you fly: Delta and Aeromexico check in and depart from Terminal 3, and Terminal 5 is closed for construction, with an anticipated reopening in 2028. Terminal 2 and Terminal 3 are being worked on together, and a few airlines still check in at Terminal 2 and leave from Terminal 3.

Getting to and from Los Angeles Airport

LAX-it is the lot where taxis and ride app cars pick you up, and the free shuttle takes you there from the terminals. The LAX FlyAway buses run scheduled round trips, seven days a week, between each terminal and Van Nuys and LA Union Station, and you board them on the Lower/Arrivals Level in front of each terminal. The rental cars have their own counters at the airport.

The LAX-it shuttle stops are on the arrivals (lower) level next to the baggage claim areas, marked with a green column, and the lot has restrooms with adult changing stations.

What happens when you arrive at LAX

Keep your passport and any form you filled in on the plane with you the whole way, from the aircraft door to the exit.

The airport's pages on customs and immigration and on connections cover what to do on arrival and between flights, and the interactive map shows the shops, the services and the gates of every terminal.

Los Angeles Airport with children

LAX is a big airport with a long walk in it, so keep water and a snack within reach and allow time for the distance between terminals, especially when you have a stroller.

Leave the passports and the children's documents in your carry-on bag, not in checked luggage, so you have them at passport control.

Plan your stop at Los Angeles Airport

Check with the airline and the airport's own site before you travel: terminals, airlines and arrival procedures change, and some terminals are closed for construction. And check with the embassy or consulate about the documents your family needs for the entry rules of every country on your route.
