The terminals at San Juan Airport

San Juan Airport is the Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport, in the island of Puerto Rico. The airport's own airlines page lists two passenger terminals with the carriers in each one: JetBlue, Air Sunshine and Tradewind fly from Terminal A.

Terminal B is the larger one, where American Airlines, Avianca, Copa Airlines, Delta, Frontier, Iberia, Spirit, Southwest and United fly, together with the small regional carriers of the island.

Getting to and from San Juan Airport

Taxis wait on the arrivals level of Terminal A, and on the arrivals level of Terminal B, where the passengers who come out of the baggage areas of Terminals B and C get in. The fares are regulated and approved by the Puerto Rico Tourism Company.

There are three bus stops on the second level, the departures level, at Terminals A, D and E. The T5 and the D53 go to Isla Verde, Old San Juan and the Convention Center, the D53 also to Condado on Ashford Avenue, and the E40 to Piñero Avenue.

The SJU Park and Ride, at the Mall of San Juan, sends a shuttle bus to the airport, and the parking areas of the airport itself are open 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

What happens when you arrive at San Juan Airport

You claim your checked bag in the baggage area of your terminal, and the taxi rank, the bus stops and the ride-share points are all a short walk from there. The taxi rank of Terminal B and the ride-share points serve Terminals B and C together.

The airport's own flight search shows the departures and the arrivals of every airline, so you can look for your flight before you leave the hotel and see its status on the day.

San Juan Airport with children

If you drive, the Park and Ride at the Mall of San Juan is the easy option: the car stays there and a shuttle bus takes the family to the terminal, so you walk with only your hand luggage.

Keep the passports and the children's documents in your carry-on bag, not in the checked luggage. The taxi fares are the regulated ones, the same for every driver, so the trip to your hotel is never a surprise.

Plan your stop at San Juan Airport

Check with the airline and with the airport's own site before you travel: the terminals, the airlines and the arrival procedures change. And check with the embassy or the consulate about the documents your family needs for the entry rules of every country on your route.
