The terminals at Santo Domingo Airport

The operator's own page describes the terminal of 73,282 m2, spread over three levels and a basement, with a runway of 3,354 m by 60 m, which the operator calls the best in the Caribbean and one of the few in the region where an Airbus A380 can land.

A new terminal of more than 40,000 m2 is under construction next to Terminal 1, and the operator says it will open in December 2028 and work alongside the current one without stopping the airport operations while it is built. The project has an aviation platform of 50,000 m2 and 900 parking spaces.

Getting to and from Santo Domingo Airport

The airport is on Ruta 66 in La Caleta, a few minutes from the city centre, and its own page says it is easy to reach by private car or taxi. Follow the road signs that point to the Aeropuerto Internacional Las Americas, and there is short, long and premium parking at the airport.

The taxi stand is at the main entrance on the first level, and the service is run by the Sindicato SICHALA, which the Ministry of Tourism authorises to work at the airport.

What happens when you arrive at SDQ

Keep your passport and any form you filled in on the plane with you the whole way, from the aircraft door to the exit.

On an international arrival you clear immigration, collect your bags and pass through customs, and the desks of the tour operators are at the end of the customs process. The airport has separate lines in the immigration halls for Dominican citizens and for foreign residents.

Santo Domingo Airport with children

The airport's own page for families says that every child needs a boarding pass, even a baby travelling on the lap, and that the children must carry their identity document and passport. To confirm the age of a child under two the airline may not accept a birth certificate, because it has no photo.

There are priority lanes at immigration and customs for passengers with disabilities, elderly travellers and people travelling with babies, and the airport has wheelchairs and access ramps. A child under 18 who travels alone, with one parent or with a third person needs a travel authorisation from the Direccion General de Migracion.

Plan your stop at Santo Domingo Airport

Terminals, airlines and arrival procedures change, so check with the airline and the airport's own site before you travel. And check with the embassy or consulate about the documents your family needs for the entry rules of every country on your route.
