The check-in areas at Zurich Airport
Zurich Airport works with three check-in areas, Check-in 1, Check-in 2 and Check-in 3, and the airport's own airlines page lists every carrier with the area where it checks in, so you can look for the area of your airline before you travel.
In Check-in 1 and Check-in 3 fly SWISS, easyJet, Edelweiss, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Croatia Airlines, Aegean Airlines and Pegasus Airlines. Check-in 2 is where Lufthansa, Air Canada, Air France, American Airlines, British Airways, Emirates, KLM, Qatar Airways, Turkish Airlines and the rest of the long list check in.
Getting to and from Zurich Airport
The airport is served by trains, trams and buses, and the SBB trains leave for Zurich's main station every 10 minutes, and the journey takes 15 minutes. The public transport also links the airport with the rest of Switzerland and with the neighbouring countries.
On weekends an early-morning train runs from Bern via Olten and Zurich Oerlikon to the airport, so the towns on that route can leave the car at home and catch the first flights of the day, the ones that leave between 6:00 and 08:00. In 2026 these early trains run on all weekends, from Friday to Saturday and from Saturday to Sunday.
What happens when you arrive at Zurich Airport
The size, the weight and the number of pieces of baggage you can bring depend on the airline and on the booking class, so the airport asks you to check the rules at home, before you travel, and that way nothing has to be taken out of your bag at the security check.
The airport's baggage page also has the special baggage, from the prams to the items that need their own treatment, and the lost items service, for the day you cannot find a bag.
Zurich Airport with children
If you take your own pram or pushchair, you have to present it at the check-in desk and the airline decides whether it travels in the hold or with you to the gate. As a general rule the two-piece prams are checked in, while the one-piece prams and the pushchairs go with you to the gate.
You can also rent a pushchair for a child from 0 to 4 years, and pick it up at the counters for passengers with reduced mobility in Check-in 1 and 2, and return it at the gate. SWISS has a Family Check-in at the back of Check-in 1, and after the security check the Family Services area in passenger zone A has a kettle for the baby food and sells nappies and other baby articles.
Plan your stop at Zurich Airport
Check with the airline and with the airport's own site before you travel: the check-in areas, the airlines and the arrival procedures change. And check with the embassy or the consulate about the documents your family needs for the entry rules of every country on your route, and about the consent form a child who travels with one parent must carry.
