The terminals at Shanghai Pudong Airport

Shanghai Pudong International Airport has two terminals:

  • Terminal 1 handles the international flights and many of the domestic ones.
  • Terminal 2 handles the rest of the domestic flights.

The airport's own site says to check the terminal named on your ticket, because the assignment can change, and it publishes the check-in deadlines for each terminal.

Getting to and from Shanghai Pudong Airport

The metro is the easiest way into Shanghai: the station is called Pudong Airport Terminal 1&2, so the same station serves both terminals, and the first train leaves at 6:00 in the morning and the last one at 10:00 at night. The Maglev is the fast train to Longyang Road, the free shuttle bus connects Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 every ten to fifteen minutes, and the taxis wait outside the arrival gate of each terminal.

What happens when you arrive at PVG

Keep your passport and any form you filled in on the plane with you the whole way, from the aircraft door to the exit, and check the terminal on your ticket before you travel.

The airport asks passengers to take a power bank out of the bag before the security check, and to check the certification label, the brand and the model, because power banks without the Chinese certification are not allowed on domestic flights.

Shanghai Pudong Airport with children

The metro station is inside the terminal complex and serves both terminals, so a family does not have to change transport. If you do have to change terminals, the free shuttle bus runs all day, and it is worth having a snack and water within reach for the wait.

Plan your stop at Shanghai Pudong Airport

Terminals, airlines and arrival procedures change, so check with the airline and the airport's own site before you travel. And check with the embassy or consulate about the documents your family needs for the entry rules of every country on your route.
