The terminals at Frankfurt Airport
Frankfurt Airport has three passenger terminals:
- Terminal 1, with the concourses A, B and C, and the train station on its underground level.
- Terminal 2, whose airlines have all moved to Terminal 3.
- Terminal 3, the new one, with the gates G, H and J, which can take around 19 million passengers a year.
The airport's own pages have the list of the airlines from A to Z, with the terminal and the check-in area of each one, so you can look up your flight before you travel.
Getting to and from Frankfurt Airport
The Frankfurt Airport Regional Station connects the airport directly with Frankfurt, Offenbach, Hanau, Aschaffenburg, Rüsselsheim, Mainz and Wiesbaden. The S-Bahn lines S8 and S9 and the regional trains RB58, RE59, RE2 and RE3 cover the whole RMV area. The station is on the underground level of Terminal 1 and is reachable from all the terminal areas: just follow the signs for the train stations.
The bus stops are in front of Terminal 1 and in front of Terminal 3 at the arrival level, and the airport's own pages also cover the long-distance buses, the Lufthansa Express Bus and the hotel shuttles.
What happens when you arrive at FRA
Keep your passport and any form you filled in on the plane with you the whole way, from the aircraft door to the exit.
The airport's own pages cover the arrivals, the check-in, the baggage, the border control and the lost or delayed luggage, and Terminal 3 has the self check-in and the Fast Bag Drop, so you can leave your bag at the kiosk without waiting in a long line.
Frankfurt Airport with children
The airport's own page on the special needs has a section on travelling with children, and the accessible travel services are next to it. If you need assistance, contact your airline or your tour operator at least 48 hours before the departure: it is not possible to book the assistance directly at the airport.
Leave the passports and the children's documents in your carry-on bag, not in the checked luggage, so you have them at the border control.
Plan your stop at Frankfurt Airport
The free SkyLine train connects the terminals and runs from 4 AM to 11 PM, with services every 2 or 3 minutes, and a shuttle bus covers the hours outside that. Check the terminal of your airline on the airport's own list, and check with the embassy or consulate about the documents your family needs for the entry rules of every country on your route.
