The terminals at Munich Airport
Munich Airport has two passenger terminals, Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, and the Munich Airport Center, the MAC, stands between the two. The airport's own site plan shows the MAC, Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, and Terminal 2 is the one with the gates from G to H and from K to L.
It is a busy hub: in the summer flight schedule of 2026 there are 90 airlines with more than 206,000 flights to 220 destinations in 70 countries, and the schedule runs until October 24, 2026.
Getting to and from Munich Airport
The S-Bahn station is right under the Munich Airport Center, on level 02, and escalators and fully accessible elevators take you to the ground floor of the MAC, on level 03. From there you reach Terminal 1, or you cross the MAC Forum to reach Terminal 2.
The airport train service of the Deutsche Bahn runs the S-Bahn lines S1 and S8 of the MVV, the Munich transport network, and they take you into the city. The Lufthansa Express Bus, the Flixbus and the regional bus lines serve the airport as well, and all of the bus lines stop in front of the MAC on the ground floor and outside the areas A and D of Terminal 1.
There are taxis, car sharing and the transfer services, and the transfer services include the shuttle bus and the shuttle train that take you to the gate, so you do not have to walk the whole way.
What happens when you arrive at Munich Airport
The airport warns that you may have to walk longer distances, and that you may have to use the shuttle bus or the shuttle train to get to the gate, so you should leave enough time for the walk and for the security check.
The departure and arrival pages of the airport show the flight plan with the departures and the arrivals of every airline, and the site says that all the flight information is subject to change, so it is worth looking at it on the day.
Munich Airport with children
The escalators and the fully accessible elevators take you from the S-Bahn platform to the MAC with a stroller, and the buses stop in front of the center and outside the areas A and D of Terminal 1, close to where you come out of the terminal.
Keep the passports and the children's documents in your carry-on bag, not in the checked luggage, and if your family needs help at the airport, the airport asks you to contact the airline in advance.
Plan your stop at Munich Airport
Check with the airline and with the airport's own site before you travel: the terminals, the airlines and the arrival procedures change. And check with the embassy or the consulate about the documents your family needs for the entry rules of every country on your route.
