The terminals at Accra Airport
Accra Airport is the Kotoka International Airport, and the Ghana Airports Company Limited, the company that runs it, also runs the Prempeh I International Airport in Kumasi, the Sunyani Airport, the Tamale International Airport, the Wa Airport and the Ho Airport. At Accra, most of the airlines have their desk on the first floor of Terminal One, and the South African Airways has one in Terminal One and another in Terminal Two.
The airport's own airlines page lists more than 20 carriers and the place of each one: Air Burkina in the GCB building beside Terminal 1, Arik Air in the departure hall of Terminal One, Asky Airlines in the airport office of the Terminal One link bridge, TAP Portugal and Turkish Airlines in the airport office of the departure hall, and KLM opposite the Emirates cargo area. The other airlines of the list are British Airways, Delta Airlines, Egypt Air, Emirates, Ethiopian Airlines, Kenya Airways, Brussels Airlines, Royal Air Maroc, Qatar Airways, United Airlines, Air France, ITA Airways, Air Tanzania, Air Peace, Rwandair, Air Cote d'Ivoire, Passion Air, Africa World Airlines and Ibom Airlines.
Getting to and from Accra Airport
The metered taxis to and from the airport are run by Labour Enterprise Trust Co. Ltd., and they wait in the Car Park 5. The public pool taxis are in the same car park and take you to several places in Accra and further, and their price is not fixed, so you can agree it before you get in.
The hiring cars are in the Car Park 2, outside the arrivals hall, and the airport's own page says the fares of the routes and the areas are shown in the arrival hall, next to the booths of the hiring cars and the taxis.
What happens when you arrive at ACC
Keep your passport and any form you filled in on the plane with you the whole way, from the aircraft door to the exit.
If your checked baggage is delayed, damaged or lost, the airport's own guide asks you to report it at the Lost and Found desk in the arrival hall before you leave, because the procedures have to start at once. The desk is open the 24 hours of the day, the seven days of the week, and the questions about the baggage are handled by the ground agent of your airline: Aviance, Menzies or Swissport.
Accra Airport with children
The customer service staff of the airport can easily be found, and they help the families with the arrival, the baggage and the way to the taxis, which are in the Car Park 5 right outside the arrivals hall, so the walk with the bags and the children is short.
Keep the passports and the children's documents in your carry-on bag, not in the checked luggage, so you have them at the passport control, and leave the passports of the whole family together. And if the child needs help at the gate, contact the airline before you travel.
Plan your stop at Accra Airport
The airport's own airlines page says where each carrier has its desk, and the desks move between the terminals from time to time, so check it before you travel. And check with the embassy or consulate about the documents your family needs for the entry rules of every country on your route.
