The terminals at Lagos Airport
Murtala Muhammed International Airport, the IATA code LOS and the ICAO code DNMM, is in Ikeja, in the state of Lagos, and it is the busiest airport of Nigeria. It has an international terminal and a domestic one, about a kilometre from each other, and the two share the same runways. The domestic terminal is the privately funded MMA2, which was commissioned on 7 April 2007, and the new international terminal was commissioned on 22 March 2022 with a capacity of 14 million passengers a year. The international and the cargo terminals are open the 24 hours of the day.
Air Peace has its main base at the airport, and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria counts Emirates, Delta and China Southern Airlines among the carriers with landing rights there.
Getting to and from Lagos Airport
The authority is building a new road system for the pick-up and the drop-off, and it will join Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 and solve the difference in height between the two buildings. The terminals are within walking distance of each other, and the check-in of Terminal 1 is now in the temporary departure hall, which is very close to Terminal 2 and joined to it by a covered walkway.
The authority says there is no shuttle between the terminals while the works last, but it has put up the signs all over the airport and has staff on the ground to guide the passengers, and the shuttle buses run between the terminal buildings and the aircraft when the walk to the plane is long.
What happens when you arrive at LOS
Keep your passport and any form you filled in on the plane with you the whole way, from the aircraft door to the exit.
The authority asks you to be at the airport two hours before a local flight and three hours before an international one, and it says the international travellers should follow the signs and the information boards of the temporary departure hall. The customer service desk of Terminal 1 is on the left as you enter through Gate C, beside the screening machine, and the one of Terminal 2 is in the middle of the concourse, under the flight display boards.
Lagos Airport with children
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria gives help to the elderly, to the passengers with disabilities and to the unaccompanied minors, and the support desk of the airport is the place to ask for it. The customer service is on the phone the 24 hours of the day, and there is a WhatsApp support for the instant answers.
The temporary departure hall of Terminal 1 was designed to be easy for the passengers with physical challenges, for the elderly and for the children, and it has the emergency medical assistance inside. The two lounges of the hall have WiFi, power sockets and private seating for the business travellers, and the arrivals continue at Terminal 2, which is where the customer service desk is opposite the lift.
Plan your stop at Lagos Airport
The airport is in the middle of the rehabilitation of Terminal 1, and the authority says the check-in counters have moved, so check with your airline before you travel and follow the signs of the airport on the day. And check with the embassy or consulate about the documents your family needs for the entry rules of every country on your route.
