The terminals at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport
Suvarnabhumi Airport has two passenger buildings:
- The Main Terminal Building (MTB) holds the departures on the third level and the arrivals on the second.
- The Midfield Satellite 1 (SAT-1) has 28 contact gates and is joined to the Main Terminal Building by a tunnel of about one kilometre.
The airport's own site asks you to allow at least two hours in advance to make sure you board on time, because of the airport procedures. It also publishes the airport map and the live departure and arrival boards.
Getting to and from Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport
The public buses leave from the Public Transportation Center, and the public taxi counter is on the first floor of the terminal. The shuttle bus lines serve the terminal exits, the car park and the cargo area, and the car rental is on the first floor. Inside the airport, the trains cross the tunnel between the Main Terminal Building and SAT-1 in about three minutes.
What happens when you arrive at BKK
Keep your passport and any form you filled in on the plane with you the whole way, from the aircraft door to the exit, and check the terminal on your ticket before you travel.
The arrivals and the connections are on the second level of the satellite, so if your flight goes to the satellite, follow the signs for the trains in the tunnel.
Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport with children
The airport is big, and the satellite is a kilometre away from the main building, so plan the walk with a child in mind. The shuttle bus lines are the easy way from the terminal exits to the Public Transportation Center, where the buses to the city leave, and a snack and water are worth keeping within reach.
Plan your stop at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport
