The terminals at Denver Airport
Denver International Airport has one passenger terminal, Jeppesen Terminal, with the A, B and C concourses and 172 gates. The terminal is 2.6 million square feet, under a peaked roof of about 240,000 square feet that the airport says is large enough to cover more than four football fields.
The airport serves 236 nonstop destinations, and it is open on a large site, 53 square miles, so the walks inside are long. The airport's own site says the terminal is being expanded and improved, and it publishes the projects and the construction alerts.
Getting to and from Denver Airport
The A Line train serves the airport from the Transit Center, which is on Level 1 under the Westin Denver International Hotel, and it goes to Denver Union Station. The same station serves the RTD bus routes AB, AT, 104L, 145X and 169L. You reach the Transit Center at the south end of Jeppesen Terminal, through the glass doors and down the escalator or the elevator.
The taxis are available 24 hours a day at the taxi stands, with no advance booking needed: you go straight to the stands after the baggage claim. The rental car counters are all off-site, and the free shuttle from the Jeppesen Terminal pickup area takes you to them. The airport also has the charter buses for groups, and the RTD customer care line gives translation support in over 200 languages.
What happens when you arrive at DEN
Keep your passport and any form you filled in on the plane with you the whole way, from the aircraft door to the exit.
The airport publishes the security wait times and the information on the expedited screening options, and it asks families to allow extra time to check in and to go through the security checkpoints.
Denver Airport with children
DEN has two child play areas, one near Gate C54 and one near Gate A25, with play structures, seating and storage spaces, and both are open 24 hours a day. The free nursing and changing rooms are post-security in each of the concourses, and there are two more in Jeppesen Terminal: one in the centre on Level 5 in the arrivals area and one at the north end near the international arrivals.
Each nursing room has comfortable seating, a sink, a changing table, power outlets and wheelchair access, and is available 24 hours a day. If a child is travelling alone or needs help at the gate, the airport asks you to contact your airline ahead of time for the escort assistance.
Plan your stop at Denver Airport
The terminal is big, so plan the walk: the airport is 53 square miles, and the concourses are long. Check the security wait times and the construction alerts on the airport's own site before you travel, and check with the embassy or consulate about the documents your family needs for the entry rules of every country on your route.
