The terminals at New York Newark Airport

Newark Liberty International Airport has three passenger terminals. Terminal A opened in 2022 and is where Air Canada, American Airlines, Delta, JetBlue and United Airlines fly from. Terminal B is the big one, with more than 30 airlines, most of them international, and Terminal C is operated by United, with its own lounges, art, shops and restaurants.

The airport's own airlines page lists the 37 operating airlines and the check-in level of each one, so you can look for your airline before you travel: Aer Lingus, Aeromexico, Air Canada, Air France, Air India, Air Premia, Alaska Airlines, Allegiant Air, American Airlines, Arajet, Austrian Airlines, BermudAir, Breeze Airways, British Airways, Delta, EgyptAir, El Al, Emirates, Ethiopian Airlines, French Bee, Frontier Airlines, Iberia, Icelandair, JetBlue, La Compagnie, LOT Polish, Lufthansa, Porter Airlines, SAS, Singapore Airlines, Sun Country Airlines, SWISS, TAP Portugal, Turkish Airlines, United Airlines, Volaris and Volaris El Salvador.

Getting to and from New York Newark Airport

The AirTrain is the free way to move inside the airport: it joins the terminals, the central parking, the on-airport bus, the hotel shuttles, the rental car centre and the public transport, and it takes the passengers between the terminals in under 20 minutes. From the train station, Terminal C is 7 minutes away and Terminal B 11 minutes.

Terminal A is a 15-minute walk on a covered pathway or a 5-minute shuttle ride, and the AirTrain does not stop there. From 11 at night to 5 in the morning the AirTrain arrives and departs at Terminals B and C every 15 minutes, and a shuttle bus takes the passengers who need to reach Terminal A.

The Newark Airport Train Station serves NJ Transit and Amtrak, and from there you can take the PATH or the New York subway. The airport's own page gives the times: 30 minutes to Midtown Manhattan, 40 minutes to the 33rd Street PATH station, 30 minutes to Journal Square, 5 minutes to Newark Penn Station and 55 minutes to Hoboken.

What happens when you arrive at EWR

Keep your passport and any form you filled in on the plane with you the whole way, from the aircraft door to the exit.

The airport's own FAQ says how long the walk to the gate is after the security: between 2 and 10 minutes in Terminal A, between 2 and 4 minutes for all the gates of Terminal B, and between 1 and 10 minutes in Terminal C. The baggage carts are in every terminal, and the Mobile Passport Control app lets you declare the goods from the phone.

New York Newark Airport with children

The airport's own services page lists, for the families, the children's play areas, the children's libraries, the lactation rooms and pods, the sensory rooms, the family restrooms, the prayer and meditation rooms and the relief areas for pets and service animals, and its interactive map shows where each one is.

The Airport Customer Experience Specialists, in a red uniform, are at the information centres, and the airport answers the phone the 24 hours of the day, every day of the week. If a child needs help at the security, ask for a Passenger Support Specialist of TSA Cares, and send the request at least 72 hours before the flight.

Plan your stop at New York Newark Airport

Check the terminal of your flight on the airport's own airlines page before you travel, because the AirTrain and the walking times are different in each one, and check with the embassy or consulate about the documents your family needs for the entry rules of every country on your route.
