Phoenix Airport (PHX)
Phoenix Sky Harbor (PHX) has Terminal 3 and Terminal 4, which has the checkpoints A, B, C and D. American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines and Southwest Airlines fly from them. The terminals at Phoenix Airport
Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport has two passenger terminals:
- Terminal 3, with a single security checkpoint.
- Terminal 4, with the checkpoints A, B, C and D. All the gates are accessible through any checkpoint.
The airport's own site shows the wait at each checkpoint on its home page, and it lets you reserve a time to go through security with PHXRESERVE, so you can skip the queue and go at the time you choose.
The airport's own airlines page says which carrier uses which terminal. Terminal 3 is where Advanced Airlines, Air Canada, Alaska Airlines, Allegiant, Breeze Airways, Delta Air Lines, Denver Air Connection, Frontier Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, JetBlue Airways, Porter Airlines, Southern Airways Express, Sun Country Airlines and United Airlines fly, and Terminal 4 is where Aeroméxico, Air France, American Airlines, British Airways, China Airlines, Contour Airlines, Southwest Airlines, STARLUX Airlines, Volaris and WestJet fly.
The same airport's destinations page says that 24 airlines fly from Phoenix Sky Harbor, to more than 130 cities in the country and to 24 international destinations: Calgary, Edmonton, Kelowna, Montreal, Regina, Saskatoon, Toronto, Vancouver and Winnipeg in Canada, Cancun, Culiacan, Guadalajara, Hermosillo, Loreto, Manzanillo, Mazatlan, Mexico City, Monterrey, Puerto Vallarta, San Jose del Cabo and Zihuatanejo in Mexico, and London Heathrow, Munich and Paris in Europe.
Getting to and from Phoenix Airport
The free PHX Sky Train runs between the airport terminals, the East Economy Parking, the 24th Street Economy Parking, the Rental Car Center and the Valley Metro Rail at 44th and Washington streets. The 44th Street PHX Sky Train station is a direct connection to the Valley Metro Rail, which reaches Phoenix, Tempe and Mesa.
The Valley Metro bus Route 13 stops at the 24th Street PHX Sky Train station, and the bus Route 44 connects with the airport at the 44th Street PHX Sky Train station. There are more than 10 rental car companies in the Rental Car Center, the ride share is arranged 24 hours a day at Terminal 3, Terminal 4 and the two Sky Train stations, and the taxis and the shuttles are at both terminals.
What happens when you arrive at PHX
Keep your passport and any form you filled in on the plane with you the whole way, from the aircraft door to the exit.
The airport's own site publishes the maps and directions, the security wait times, the check-in and bag check information and the notices about the airport roadway, so you can read them before you travel.
Phoenix Airport with children
The Sky Train is free and runs between the terminals, the parking and the rail station, so moving around the airport with a stroller is easier than it looks, and the airport's own public transport page lists the wheelchair-accessible options and the senior and disabled ones.
Leave the passports and the children's documents in your carry-on bag, not in the checked luggage, so you have them at passport control. And keep a hat and water within reach: the wait for a ride is on the curb, in the sun.
Plan your stop at Phoenix Airport
Check the terminal on your ticket and the wait times on the airport's home page before you travel, and check with the embassy or consulate about the documents your family needs for the entry rules of every country on your route.
