The terminals at San Francisco Airport
SFO has the Harvey Milk Terminal 1, Terminal 2, Terminal 3 and two international terminals: the Dianne Feinstein International Terminal A and the Dianne Feinstein International Terminal G.
The airport publishes the carriers of each one. In Terminal 1, for example, fly Aer Lingus, AeroMexico, Air France, Air India and Air Canada, which is in Terminal 2, and in the international terminals fly Air China, which is in the International Terminal G.
The terminals are far apart, so check the terminal on your ticket before you go and plan the walk or the AirTrain ride.
Getting to and from San Francisco Airport
BART serves the airport, and the Clipper card works on the Bay Area transit systems: BART, Muni, Caltrain, SamTrans, the San Francisco Bay Ferry and the Golden Gate Ferry. BART's Tap and Ride lets you tap a contactless card or a phone at the fare gates instead of using a Clipper card.
Taxis, ride-hail cars, the rental cars and the hotel shuttles also serve the airport, and the AirTrain links the terminals, the parking garages and the rental car center.
What happens when you arrive at SFO
Keep your passport and any form you filled in on the plane with you the whole way, from the aircraft door to the exit, and leave the passports and the children's documents in your carry-on bag, not in checked luggage.
The airport publishes the security wait times and has its own travel alerts, so it is worth a look before you leave for the airport, and it has a page on international travel arrivals for the order of the steps.
San Francisco Airport with children
SFO lists kids spots, a sensory room and a mother s room with lactation pods among its services, and the airport's own information desk is on site to point you the right way.
The AirTrain makes the longer distances between the terminals easier with a stroller, and keep a snack and water within reach for the walk.
Plan your stop at San Francisco Airport
Check with the airline and the airport's own site before you travel: the terminals, the airlines and the arrival procedures change, and there is construction work at Terminal 3. And check with the embassy or consulate about the documents your family needs for the entry rules of every country on your route.
