The terminals at Caracas Airport

Caracas Airport (CCS) is the Simón Bolívar International Airport of Maiquetía, in the state of La Guaira. Its operator, Bolivariana de Aeropuertos (BAER), says the airport resumed its regular operations on Tuesday 1 September 2026 through temporary modular installations, after the earthquakes of 24 June, and that this phase of the recovery guarantees the continuity of the commercial flights 24 hours a day.

The temporary complex has three halls. The national departures hall covers 3,335 square metres, with three boarding gates and room for 480 people. The international hall covers 4,300 square metres, with four boarding gates and up to 780 passengers. The arrivals area covers 2,554 square metres, and outside the terminal there are 1,000 square metres reserved for the people who come to see the travellers off.

Airlines at Caracas Airport

The operator says the restart of the commercial connections involves Conviasa, Laser, Copa Airlines, Air Europa, Estelar, Rutaca and Aeropostal, and it adds that American Airlines began the Caracas–Miami route on 30 April, with two daily frequencies.

More airlines are on the way back. In September the operator said Turkish Airlines would resume its operations on 1 October with four weekly frequencies, that Qatar Airways plans to start flying to the country again on 4 November, and that ITA Airways is completing the paperwork to join the national network from 2027.

Getting to and from Caracas Airport

Caracas Airport (CCS) is the Simón Bolívar International Airport of Maiquetía, in the state of La Guaira. With the airport working from its temporary modular halls, the operator publishes the news of the restart on its own site, and it says the walk from the check-in counters to the boarding gates takes about 30 minutes inside the complex, so plan for it if you travel with children or heavy bags.

The people who come to see the travellers off wait outside: the operator has reserved 1,000 square metres next to the terminal for them. Because the airport is still being rebuilt, the operator's own site and your airline are the places to check for how you reach the temporary halls before you travel.

Caracas Airport with children

The airport asks families to plan with time in mind: passengers with a scheduled flight should arrive two hours early for a domestic route and three hours for an international one. The operator says the walk from the check-in counters to the boarding gates takes about 30 minutes.

The screening is done with four X-ray units in the international area and a body scanner, under the supervision of the country's aviation and identity authorities. Next to the terminal there is an outdoor area of 1,000 square metres for the people who come to see the travellers off, and a child travelling without one of its parents needs a travel permit, with the birth certificate, the identity cards of the parents and the passport when the trip is international.

Plan your stop at Caracas Airport

The airport is still being rebuilt. The operator's plan is to restore 40% of the functions of the traditional terminals by November 2026 and to go past 60% of the combined operating capacity by the end of the year. In September it reported 50% of its air operativity, with 1,145 domestic flights and 576 international operations.

Because the halls are temporary, check the operator's own site before you travel and check with the airline, because the airlines, the routes and the frequencies change. Ask the embassy or the consulate of every country on your route which documents your family needs to enter it.
